What Our Clients are Saying
"We hired Shelter Bay Construction back in the Spring of 2021 to help us with a botched renovation. Bruce was recommended to us through a family friend. He took over the severely botched bathroom renovation and helped us to build a safe and beautiful bathroom. Bruce then began our basement suite project. Unfortunately, we had many surprises along the way, and a simple reno. became a huge ordeal! We ended up having to repair the foundation on our 100 year old home, we had to dig down to create enough floor to ceiling height to meet the current building codes. It ended up being a complete gut job! Bruce had to guide us with plumbing, electrical (knob and tube removal), tiling, painters, kitchen design, drainage, insulation, drywall, etc. Although it was incredibly stressful for all of us, we got through and now we have a gorgeous, brand new, 1000 plus sq ft. legal suite! Bruce also helped us with managing re-siding our entire house and replacing the shingled roof with a metal roof.Bruce was committed and incredibly helpful along the way. We had such a terrible experience with the first company we had used, and so feeling that we could trust Bruce was huge. He is an incredibly kind, reasonable, and knowledgeable Contractor. We found that communication is key when it comes to the Client/Contractor relationship. It is a team effort. Continuing to ask questions and clarify along the way is so important. There are a lot of balls in the air when you are doing a project - granting each other a little patience along the way is necessary.I would absolutely recommend Shelter Bay Construction."

"During the pandemic we decided to do a major renovation in our home. We enlisted a major contractor in Courtenay to do it. With complications due to Covid, the contractor in Courtenay had to close its doors. We were devastated. But Bruce Lindsey, who worked for them, offered to take up the job and do our renovation. It was a difficult situation, as businesses were shut down due to Covid and some went out of business completely and supplies took way longer than normal to be delivered. So our 3 month renovation took more like 8 months but that was no fault of Bruce’s. In fact, he helped a lot with finding good trades who would come up to our town and do the work. He helped me find a great designer from Courtenay and she worked with me and created a design I loved. Bruce was realistic with me on timelines and what I could expect during the renovation. Not being a new build he had to work with what we had as a base for the house. You never know what surprises are behind the walls when you undergo a renovation. He brought our home up to code and made sure we were happy with the final results. Since we have moved back in the house, there were a few items that needed fixing and he was up promptly fixing them. Bruce said to me that he doesn’t just disappear after the renovation is done. He wants happy clients and will be there after the job is done to make sure we are satisfied. He knows his stuff. And what makes Bruce more valuable, is he knows what the trades are supposed to be doing. No one can pull the wool over his eyes. Although our budget was more than we had hoped to spend it was worth it in the end. When you deal with a renovation vs a new build you never know what you are getting into. I would recommend Bruce and Shelter Bay Construction to anyone."
